Recently described by Guitar World as the “Jimi Hendrix of Sacred Steel”, Nikki Brown is an electric lap steel guitar phenomenon, melding strikingly vocal-like slide guitar lines with wild and funky wah-infused rhythms creating a sound that is sonically rich, vibrant and uniquely her own. Hailing from Toledo, Ohio, Nikki was born into a Church-based slide guitar tradition known as Sacred Steel and learnt from renowned steel guitar master, Del Grace breathing an infectiously fervent energy into what is a traditional guitar style. To add, Nikki, is a powerful singer and performer with a distinctive approach developed over a lifetime of gospel singing, resulting in a powerfully rich, raspy soul-gospel vocal style delivered with impeccable flare and flamboyancy. Nikki’s sisters Gloria (rhythm guitar and vocals) and Belinda (bass guitar and vocals) and cousin Tomika (drums and vocals) share the same deep musical heritage and love of infectious gospel-soul funk- blues music, a sound that has its melodic roots in the Sacred Steel guitar tradition. Joining Nikki and the Browns is legendary Australian guitarist and music producer, Dom Turner, of the awarded Australian blues act, Backsliders.

Hailing from the Blue Mountains near Sydney, award winning Australian solo artist Claude Hay invokes the best of stomping traditional blues, hard rock and booty-shaking funk, all delivered with slide guitar chops to burn and a vocal range to match. Claude is perhaps the world’s ultimate Do-It- Yourself musician – initially forging his live sound on the back of looping technology which allowed him to create a band vibe without the band. This approach has seen this fiercely independent artist build an audience for his music globally with the release of three award-winning home-made albums. His fourth album "Roller Coaster" released September 2016 saw him form a band, hence his song writing became unhindered from the constraints of looping which allowed him to finesse his rock-blues, come funk-hillbilly mojo to another level.

The original, and in some people's eyes, the unsurpassable four piece line-up of Spectrum with Daryl Roberts providing the essential link with the original keyboard-centric concept. Broc O'Connor has comparatively recently replaced the late Bill Putt as bassist and now the quartet appears to be set for years of development according to the inspired charter of the original Spectrum in the late '60s and early '70s. Songs in the current Spectrum repertoire include: I'll Be Gone, Launching Place Part Two, Going Home and Fly Without Its Wings, Ariel's Jamaican Farewell, Rock & Roll Scars, Hard Way To Go, Red Hot Momma and Worm Turning Blues, Murtceps' Esmeralda, Some Good Advice and We Are Indelible, and heaps more. Then there are the new Spectrum songs from the Breathing Space EP series like Rocket Girl, Silicon Valley and Xavier Rudd is not my Son that slip right into the eclectic Spectrum live mix. More often than not Spectrum includes a blues set by its alter ego, Spectrum Plays the Blues, which can be prised away from the mother ship as a separate and distinct entity and play a solid couple of hours of classic blues songs as requested. The recent Sydney Blues and Roots and Noonamah Blues Festivals saw Spectrum Plays the Blues play just such a a sizzling blues set.

Andy Cowan is one of Australia's foremost performing songwriters. He possesses a voice that invites comparison with the likes of Tom Waites or Leonard Cohen, with the soul of Ray Charles.
